Fiberglass
Fiberglass rock for interiors
Sometimes you want the look of natural rock formation inside your home. Fiberglass rock panels give us the ability to create grottoes, caverns, and other rock features without the weight of concrete. Fiberglass is a thin, strong, lightweight material - perfect for adding the look of massive rock on standard 2x4 walls and ceilings.
Fiberglass slides
A fiberglass finish gives your slide a lifetime of durability and fun. Numerous colors and patterns are available, and we can usually match your existing rockwork. The slick surface keeps you sliding the entire way down.
The following waterfall was not built by Masterpiece Waterfalls - we were contracted to only fiberglass the slide.
How durable is fiberglass?
When done properly, it's extremely tough. To demonstrate, we've driven one of our trucks onto a fiberglass rock panel - no breaks. Unlike concrete, fiberglass can flex without cracking. Tensile strengths can reach 40,000 to 45,000 psi.
We use polyester gelcoat for the coloring process, ensuring the color will never fade or come off. It becomes part of the finished product. After the coloring is done, we apply two coats of clear gelcoat to protect and lock in the color. On slides, this also gives us a very slick wear surface.
Here's what makes our process different from the other guys:
- Experience - Our team of fiberglassers is highly trained and has years of experience. We keep the work area clean and use proper safety precautions.
- Resin - We use top quality isophthalic polyester resin, the same resin used to make underground gasoline storage tanks.
- Glass fibers - In addition to 1.5oz mat, we also use 12oz woven roving - which dramatically increases the final strength and resistance to impact.
- Process - Hand layup is the premier method for doing on-site fiberglassing. A high glass to resin ratio is attained with hand layup resulting in a more durable product.
