Recreated (re • kre • a' • ted) Waterfalls
If they look and feel like rocks, they must be rocks, right?
Wrong.
They are solid high-strength concrete, cool to the touch, painted to perfection and sealed for protection from the elements. They are rock solid and built to last a lifetime.
See our work!
Seeing is believing, and we want you to believe in our product as much as we do. Take a look at our projects in the recreation gallery.
What we can make ...
You name it! Our specialty is constructing breathtaking waterfalls, but we can do much more. Using specialized processes, we can reproduce rock formations, wood, trees, old-world masonry, bridges, caves, slides, and more! Our experience in creating total environments means that we can theme your project to any extent, inside and out.
How we make it ...
There are three basic methods we use to recreate.
Positive-style rock is made completely on-site. The initial shape is formed by rebar that is bent using specialized tools. The inside of the shape is then lined with burlap, and the cage is shot 2"-3" thick with gunite or shotcrete. Once this structural layer has gained strength, we apply a mortar texture coat that we stamp and carve by hand. The result is a 4"-5" thick shell with a rock finish. Weight is approx. 20 psf.
GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) rock panels are made from a mold of actual rock cliff faces found in nature. We affix these panels to reinforced waterproofed concrete walls with rebar and anchors. The panels are then backfilled with high-strength concrete and become a solid, permanant structure. The individual panels are then blended together by using texture stamps on a special mortar, then painted to suit. Weight is approx. 9.0 psf for the panel, plus concrete backfill.
Fiberglass rock panels are made from molds, just like the GFRC panels. They are prefabricated and then fited together on-site. They are very lightweight and work well for interior rock formations, such as wine cellars, caves, and other special effects. Fiberglass panels are especially useful on ceilings and soffets that are not engineered to carry large loads. Weight varies between 2.0 and 2.5 psf.
Positive-style rock
- Cost: low
- Ideal for individual boulder formations and landscape boulders.
- Hand-stamped and carved to appear like real rock.
- Rock shape follows rebar cage.
GFRC rock panels
- Cost: medium
- Exact duplicates of real rock formations.
- Ideal for cliffs, grottos, caves, and water features.
- Incredibly detailed and realistic.
- Easily placed on existing concrete or block walls.
Fiberglass rock panels
- Cost: high
- Ultra-lightweight and easy to handle.
- Ideal for indoor formations where weight is critical.
- Can be hung from standard ceilings for cave effect.
Special finishes ...
So the shape is believable, what about the color?
Any color is achievable. Salt-and-pepper granite, pink and red Las Vegas rock, dark volcanic rock, the list goes on. We can also match existing rock on the project.
We use specialized paints that contain portland cement - the same cement our rocks are made with. The result is a very tough paint that permeates the pores of the underlying rock. We then antique the rock with paints and stains for a realistic weathered appearance.
Depending on the type of rock, we'll then apply either a matte or gloss finish to enhance the color. The finish also protects the rock from hard-water buildup, stains, and water penetration.
